Supernova (feat. Megurine Luka)

about

Based on a theme from a short film I made in college, which also became the basis for the main melody of "Gravity", this track is intended as a prologue to the album. I wove in a variation on the melody from the chorus of "Stardust" as well, with Luka singing Japanese poet Matsuo Basho's final Haiku, which roughly translates to:

Sick on a journey,
my dreams wander
the withered fields.

(translation by Robert Hass)

This was the last thing I finished writing in the album, and I was having feelings of an artist's 'postpartum' so to speak. I am never ready to finish and release my work to the world. No matter how much I work, I always want to keep working, to keep trying new things. The journey is why I create music, and this piece has all of the depression that goes into letting go and calling it 'finished'.

In terms of its place in the album overall, however, my intention is that it introduces some key themes, gives a retro sci-fi soundtrack sort of feeling, and hints at the cyclical nature of the themes the album explores.
