I wrote this as a teenager, with lyrics about heartbreak that feel empty to me now. As I was writing this section of the album that was loosely intended to convey ideas of life and death, I realized that with some more appropriate lyrics this song felt like a perfect representation of the inevitability of death. Then, as I was writing the new lyrics, new ideas about the way we interact with each other in our darkest times started to manifest. I realized that I was actually writing a song about our need for emotional connection. We all want to be heard and understood. We want someone to care about what we care about. As much as we might fear death, loneliness is more terrifying. This also makes this song a perfect bookend to the first 'movement' of the OMNIVERSE album, starting with "Stardust", before moving on to the first interlude, "Main Sequence".
