Protostar

about

Originally meant for an indie RPG video game soundtrack. When the game didn't happen, the track went into the archives, where it probably would still be, except that as I was trying to imagine what the death and rebirth cycle of a star might sound like musically, the melody came rushing back to me.

I wanted to pay homage to synth pioneers like Wendy Carlos & Tomita, and create an analog orchestra to perform this piece, but that sent us into production hell when it came to mixing because analog synths are thick and meaty, and orchestral arrangements like this are more appropriate for relatively thin instruments. Eventually I found a nice balance with the synths after some suggestions from The Human, and I think the final version has all the power and warmth of the analog synths with the detail needed to sound orchestral. I decided to use an acoustic sounding harp to contrast with the synths, and I think that helps the overall feeling.

So ultimately I don't know how well this emulates those classic early synth classical albums, but it's what it needs to be for the postlude of this album. It has its own voice, and feels like a proper end for the musical journey through the OMNIVERSE.

I am an electronic and VOCALOID musician. Sometimes I push boundaries, sometimes I do silly things, sometimes I hit the nail on the head. Enjoy!
